After two straight wins, Franklin's trip to Murfreesboro ended with a lopsided setback at second-ranked Oakland Friday night. Illinois State commit and Nashville Christian transfer Xavier Myers rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Patriots, who compiled 460 yards of offense while limiting the Rebels to just 109 yards. Franklin (4-4) managed just four first downs against the Oakland defense and converted 2-of-9 third down attempts. The Patriots have allowed just 35 points over the last five games paced by defensive end and South Carolina commit Joseph Anderson along with cornerback and Oklahoma commit Woodi Washington. Oakland (6-1) also scored 45 or more in four of those games.
Quarterback Brevin Linnell completed 11-of-13 passes for 232 yards and a pair of TDs, including an 11-yarder to Washington late in the first half in the midst of 28-0 second-quarter surge. Matt Gaca, who compiled more than 340 yards and three touchdowns in the Rebels two wins entering Friday, managed 23 yards on nine carries. Chase Crow scored the Rebels lone touchdown on a 10-yard run with 3:32 remaining to avoid the shutout. Chapman Beaird recorded 10 solo tackles to lead the Franklin defense, while Christian Moolman added six tackles and a sack. The Rebels enter a bye week. They play at home next against Spring Hill before ending the regular season with a Region 6-6A contest at Dickson County.
